{"id":866,"date":"2011-04-04T21:07:35","date_gmt":"2011-04-05T04:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=866"},"modified":"2011-04-04T21:07:35","modified_gmt":"2011-04-05T04:07:35","slug":"panhard-completion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=866","title":{"rendered":"Panhard completion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One bummer thing is there really doesn&#8217;t seem to be anything out there for the car that&#8217;s good as is. \u00a0Everything needs modification.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PartsWeight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-869\" title=\"PartsWeight\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PartsWeight-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PartsWeight-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PartsWeight.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The panhard bar mounts from UB had a couple shortcomings. \u00a0One, the axle-side mounts were really big and heavy, with all sorts of clamps and things. \u00a0With it welded on, a lot less material is needed. \u00a0So John hacked off a bunch of unnecessary material, and welded the puppy on there. \u00a0Before:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"UB panhard axle mount\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ubmachine.com\/Products\/46-1600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ModifiedPanhardBarMount.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-867\" title=\"ModifiedPanhardBarMount\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ModifiedPanhardBarMount-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ModifiedPanhardBarMount-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ModifiedPanhardBarMount.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the axle:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanBarMount-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-868\" title=\"PanBarMount-16\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanBarMount-16-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanBarMount-16-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanBarMount-16.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those changes took a few pounds off the panhard parts, which means a few fewer pounds of unsprung weight. \u00a0Another thing I see on so many of these cars is a truckload of parts bolted\/welded to the rear axle (evil Steelitis rearing its ugly head again!). \u00a0Sure, 5 new links and an 8 foot torque arm may control the axle well, but is it really worth another 75 pounds of unsprung weight to track over every bump?<\/p>\n<p>Another \u00a0problem was the way the UB Machine chassis-side mount received the lateral loads from the panhard bar. \u00a0Recall this pic from before:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanhardBar-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-870\" title=\"PanhardBar-4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanhardBar-4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanhardBar-4-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/PanhardBar-4.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lateral compression\/tension loads from the panhard aren&#8217;t in line with the vertical piece coming down from the chassis, or the cross brace. \u00a0I was worried about the lateral loads causing the panhard mount piece to want to &#8220;twist&#8221;
