{"id":2154,"date":"2014-10-27T21:55:42","date_gmt":"2014-10-28T04:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=2154"},"modified":"2014-12-07T17:09:43","modified_gmt":"2014-12-08T01:09:43","slug":"whats-up-in-the-garage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=2154","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s up in the garage?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2156\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/20141027_043906388_iOS-e1414469807490-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Z with Camaro wheels\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/20141027_043906388_iOS-e1414469807490-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/20141027_043906388_iOS-e1414469807490-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sharp eyes will notice &#8211; that&#8217;s not a Camaro.\u00a0 With the car in the classing doldrums, needed something else to bide the time.<\/p>\n<p>At the Farmington Pro in 2013 I saw a fellow named Mike running a 370Z in STR.\u00a0 It looked like a fun time &#8211; a new car, decent power, running in a fast class with DEEEEEP competition.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a bit hamstrung by somewhat heavy weight for the class limit wheel and tire, but well, that sorta thing I&#8217;m used to.\u00a0 Plus it&#8217;s a Nissan, I did well in one of those years ago, and I like the support they&#8217;ve given to amateur racers &#8211; including the GT Academy program and what it&#8217;s done for great guys like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=570\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Heitkotter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to July 2014 &#8211; Nationals approaching, nothing to run really.\u00a0 What the heck?\u00a0 Bought one thinking I&#8217;d run CS for a couple seasons, then move on to STR.<\/p>\n<p>Did a practice then put it on a transporter to Nationals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2157\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10345812_778220925550337_7530043770183994354_n.jpg\" alt=\"10345812_778220925550337_7530043770183994354_n\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10345812_778220925550337_7530043770183994354_n.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10345812_778220925550337_7530043770183994354_n-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Did ok, 5th out of 50-something.<\/p>\n<p>Then, the car got reclassed.\u00a0 Two years in a row, hah.\u00a0 It has to run against the C5 in BS now.\u00a0 Some people think it can get it done against the C5.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not one of them. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>So, the STR plan got accelerated.\u00a0 Part of the overall plan with this car was not spending mega-$, trying to stick to that.<\/p>\n<p>Sharp eyes may notice those wheels in the first pic, are the Camaro&#8217;s 18&#215;9 Jongbloeds. 9&#8243; is the maximum wheel width for STR.\u00a0 These are the wrong bolt pattern and have way too much offset for use on the Z.\u00a0 But &#8211; there are bolt-on spacers out there to adapt different bolt patterns.\u00a0 In this case, the spacer bolts on to the Z&#8217;s 5&#215;114.3 (4.5&#8243;) hub, and presents a 5&#215;4.75&#8243; bolt pattern for the Camaro-pattern Jongbloeds.\u00a0 Two birds with one stone.<\/p>\n<p>Still researching\/plotting the rest of it, just where things are now.\u00a0 More to come later&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Camaro is tucked away safe and sound.\u00a0 The SCCA is still trying to figure out what to do with modified ponycars on street tires.\u00a0 Given its typical pace, should have plenty of time to get this thing dialed in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sharp eyes will notice &#8211; that&#8217;s not a Camaro.\u00a0 With the car in the classing doldrums, needed something else to bide the time.
