{"id":196,"date":"2010-10-03T22:00:26","date_gmt":"2010-10-04T05:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=196"},"modified":"2010-10-03T22:03:15","modified_gmt":"2010-10-04T05:03:15","slug":"going-further-to-pieces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=196","title":{"rendered":"Going further to pieces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Didn&#8217;t have as much time as I would have liked this weekend, but did make some progress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09158.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-197\" title=\"DSC09158\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09158-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09158-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09158-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fenders are off, motor and trans are out. \u00a0Even though this thing weighed twice as much as any motor I&#8217;ve pulled in the past, it was easily the&#8230;easiest. \u00a0Probably helped that there was no &#8220;car&#8221; in the way&#8230; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Couple things I did wrong here &#8211; it helps if you drain the transmission fluid in advance. \u00a0Second, don&#8217;t do what I did with the ratchet-straps, use chains. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t get the chains when I borrowed the hoist and had to improvise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09154.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-199\" title=\"DSC09154\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09154-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09154-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09154-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Muncie transmission was pretty light actually. \u00a0It is set to get cleaned up. \u00a0Unfortunately the casting number indicates it&#8217;s an older transmission. \u00a0Don&#8217;t yet know if the guts are the same, this one probably has a 7\/8&#8243; cluster pin, the newer\/correct one for the car has a 1&#8243; pin. \u00a0Will have to see what I can use from this thing, and the rest will be up for sale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09183.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-200\" title=\"DSC09183\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09183-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09183-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09183-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With a casting code of 3851325, this thing could be as old as &#8217;64, man that&#8217;s crazy old! \u00a0No offense to me more senior readers.. \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0Actually it looks to be in great shape. \u00a0And that weird pot-looking thing hiding behind the transmission, will come into play very soon.<\/p>\n<p>The exhaust headers had three varieties of fastener holding them on. \u00a0A couple were snug, most were finger tight, the rest plain loose. \u00a0Between that and the big grommet-less holes in the firewall, it&#8217;s no wonder I was so sleepy the whole ride home&#8230;:) \u00a0I&#8217;m thinking I&#8217;ll re-use these totally awesome headers in the build&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;NOT!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09162.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-201\" title=\"DSC09162\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09162-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09162-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09162-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More funny stuff found in disassembly- the distributor rotor only had one of its two screws holding it in. \u00a0The carb gasket had big chunks missing. \u00a0Fuel line was kinked in two spots. \u00a0And you just gotta love the condition of the steering&#8217;s rag joint-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09170.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-202\" title=\"DSC09170\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09170-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09170-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC09170-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Overall I am very pleased with the condition of the body and frame as it comes apart. \u00a0No real rust to speak of, even in the usual places. \u00a0Pretty much everything else will be replaced, so the raggedy-ness of it all just adds amusement.<\/p>\n<p>Still need to finish emptying the interior and stripping out the rest of the ghetto wiring, then we&#8217;ll be ready for some real fun. \u00a0Looks like I&#8217;m actually going to order a couple parts this week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Didn&#8217;t have as much time as I would have liked this weekend, but did make some progress.
