{"id":1353,"date":"2012-07-29T22:07:06","date_gmt":"2012-07-30T05:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=1353"},"modified":"2012-07-29T22:07:06","modified_gmt":"2012-07-30T05:07:06","slug":"pulley-weight-savings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/?p=1353","title":{"rendered":"Pulley weight savings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t have a set of original 302 Camaro pulleys to compare to, but I suspect I&#8217;ll be able to save a bit of weight with an aftermarket set.\u00a0\u00a0Purchased the kit from <a title=\"March Performance pulleys\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marchperf.com\/csb_pulleys.html\" target=\"_blank\">March Performance<\/a>.\u00a0 It is reasonably priced, made of billet aluminum instead of chrome, and has deep grooves for the v-belts.\u00a0 These cars have a reputation for &#8220;throwing&#8221; belts at high rpm, and the deeper pulley grooves help this.<\/p>\n<p>March also has a ton of wacky serpentine conversion kits to move it all to a modern single-belt system, but alas, this would not be legal.<\/p>\n<p>Only have the alternator pulley for comparison.\u00a0 I guess technically this is a generator since it has an external voltage regulator, but anyway, the stock one-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020856.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1354\" title=\"P1020856\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020856-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"stock alternator pulley weight\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020856-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020856-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Felt heavier than it looked.\u00a0 Probably some kind of plated steel.<\/p>\n<p>March billet aluminum equivalent:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020857.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1355\" title=\"P1020857\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020857-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"march performance alternator pulley\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020857-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rhoadescamaro.com\/build\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020857-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>7.45 ounce difference &#8211; almost half a pound!\u00a0 Pretty significant for a pulley only about 2.5&#8243; in diameter.\u00a0 Besides being up high and forward of the front wheels, this thing also turns much faster than engine speed, due to the diameter difference from the crank pulley.\u00a0 So three wins on the weight side for this pulley.\u00a0 Will be using the March pulleys for the remaining pieces &#8211;
